Axle Questions
“The following is based on the assumption that the axle is a Rubber Torsion Beam Axle fitted with an Auto-Reverse Braking System” Some axles have an Identification Plate attached to the beam of the axle. This plate will give the following sort of information, this differs from manufacturer to manufacturer:
] Manufacturer AL-KO / Avonride / Bradley etc.
] Type =
] Capacity = Kg
] Serial No. =
With this information it may be possible to obtain a like-for-like replacement axle from the Original Equipment Manufacture (OEM). They may also ask for the PCD of the wheel rims and number of fixings as a cross reference (see below).
If there is no Identification Plate we will need to ask some questions about the axle.
Trailer Type = Boat / Horsebox etc.
Over Hub Face (OHF) = _ _ _ _ mm
Bracket Centres = _ _ _ _ mm
Number of Wheel fixings = 4 or 5
Fixing Type = Studs or Bolts
Fixing Size = M10 / M12 / M14 or 3/8” UNF
Pitch Circle Diameter (PCD) = 4” / 5.5” / 6.5” or 100mm / 112mm / 140mm
Which Axle? = Front / Rear
Any Markings of the Grease Caps = A / AL-KO / Peak etc.
Any Markings in the Hub casting? = _ _ _ _ _ _
